Does anyone remember Unusual Battle?
I remember back in 2014-17 there were some object shows that tried to have a serious plotline. Unusual Battle was a bit different in some regards. For one, the tone is more serious, even during competitions. It's established full well at start that there is this company with dubious intentions. And often scenes will be abruptly halted to show a million ways the company is awful.
It only lasted up until episode 5A, over a year after it's release. The original episodes got removed for... Reasons I don't exactly know? The supplementary videos(one of which revealed a plot twist regarding one of the characters) seem to be gone for good. Oh well. :(
It got rebooted 2 years later... It was much different. Roles of certain characters changed, and focused more on establishing the contestants instead. The challenge didn't even start! It got canned not too long afterwards... The people who worked on it seem to regret making it, and highly advise you to watch anything BUT this one.
Instead, another reboot came along, and this time it's a retelling of the original.
I think hit a nice balance at establishing the contestants while also conveying to the viewer that something is off about Kapla Company. I look forward to it. I do wonder how much of the story beats from the original it's willing to follow and deviate from... And if it will even continue. Most object show revivals tend to get cut short. I can only think of 2 that are set on having a conclusion! It's understandable, but unfortunate.
