BFDIA 12: Insectophobe's Nightmare 4 (ft. Kevin MacLeod)

sighhh. i dont wanna be too harsh but i gotta give my criticism here. though its mostly just personal opinion, i dont know if i would consider any of my criticisms to be objective flaws. i haven't really enjoyed any of the recent BFDIA episodes at all! there were a few good things about this one and previous ones but i haven't found any of the newer episodes all that funny or interesting at all. ive been enjoying all the celebrity voice cameos and was especially shocked by the man himself Kevin MacLeod voicing a character this episode, a couple of the jokes made me chuckle, but man... im just bored overall with the newer episodes. i could cite a few reasons why:

1. too many of the jokes just feel like a character says something rAnDoM and another character yells about how awesome it is. its the sorta random = funny that doesnt commit enough to the randomness but doesnt fall back on being clever so its not really random OR funny. its just childish, in a bad way. feels like things just happen and theres no direction. the callbacks they do feel super forced rather than funny and i can say the same for their attempts at connecting the season to BFB (which, hey, i can appreciate trying to add some continuity, but i feels like it ruins some of BFB's jokes. IDFB when it eventually comes back should be the point that connects the seasons together, in all honesty, not the middle of BFDIA, and i certainly dont think we needed an entire backstory for Purpleface because it sorta ruins his introduction in BFB.) also, maybe its just my sensory issues, but does anyone else feel like the characters have been very... loud? like theyre yelling all their jokes to make them funnier?

2. it feels rushed.  has anyone else noticed just how quickly BFDIA episodes are coming out? i think a new episode has come out every month or so, looking at JNJ's videos, meanwhile TPOT episodes come out around 2 months from each other. i know the animation probably doesnt take as much time as TPOT's but i cant help but feel like the frequency of new episode releases is REALLY felt in the writing. best way i can describe the dialogue is just awkward. its like a first draft, almost. and hey, im no stranger to going with my first draft, my middle school english teachers can confirm, but i definitely think some of the episode ideas and scripts should have had a little more time in the oven. yeah, im also not a fan of some of the actual episode plots. they dont really feel all that creative or interesting. like, in the previous episode, stealing Flower's petals is NOT an interesting challenge im sorry. we should have gotten that beauty contest. and this episode, i mean... bug dodgeball is kinda cool i guess but i was barely paying attention bc i just felt kinda bored. i dont like how the executed it. im biased but nothing is gonna top TPOT's zombie apocalypse challenge to me sorry

3. i dont want to accuse JNJ of being lazy, because i know theyre not. regardless of the quality, art takes time, and especially so for an entire full-length animated TV show episode. i have very negative opinions on BFDIA at the moment but i can still acknowledge that this stuff takes a shit load of effort. i think its moreso a drawback of trying to focus on two seasons at once. when youre trying to get a ~20 minute episode out every month while also trying to focus on a ~30 episode at the same time, i think its inevitable that the quality is gonna suffer a bit. might be an unpopular opinion but i think they should have waited to bring back BFDIA so they could put their full focus on it. yes that would mean it would take EVEN LONGER for the return of something the OSC has been waiting for for years, but the return so far is kinda disappointing.

again, this is all just my own opinion. i dont wanna objectively say BFDIA is bad or anything. i just feel so bored watching it that it cant keep my attention and i just stare at the screen until its over LMAO. i already forgot basically everything in this episode so this turned into a rant about BFDIA as a whole rather than a proper review of This Episode Specifically...
