if im being honest, i feel like ZBD is too negative lately. so lets change that - let's talk about stuff we like in object shows! it can be a character trope, a specific type of challenge or episode plot, any kind of trope really.
personally, im a really big fan of scientist/inventor types of characters. i think it can add a lot of fun and creative moments to a challenge and nerdy characters in general have always just been really fun to watch for me. when it comes to competition shows the characters and their interactions with each other are one of the most important aspects so its fun when we get super wacky stereotypes and when the show really doesnt take itself seriously, and the scientist trope can be really versatile so it makes sense why its such a popular choice

In most contexts I'm usually bored by stories about zombie invasions, but I've seen the idea executed pretty well in various pieces of object show media. ie, tpot episode 9, the webcomic Objectified, hell even osc pibby crossover stuff. what if objects got creepy scaried........... many are wondering.......

Oh I'm... So sorry about that... It's just that I like picking apart things, and I never really got to do so in the vicinity of the OSC members I did hang out with. I guess being a OSC member for a decade does something to you... I didn't know I would make things so depressing....
That said... Where do I start?? Off the top of my head... I love some good slapstick. I'm surprised there hasn't been a slapstick based show ala Looney Toons. With how much assets have changed over time, I feel it's a perfect opportunity to go all out.
Speaking of assets... Permanent changes. By that, I mean not even RECOVERY would get rid of it. The character is just stuck looking like that forever. I've always liked the idea of a character's design changing over time due to story events. It can show growth or change, but also makes it easy to associate a character with a given time.
I also like it when a character's facial features or limbs are designed around the asset. Such as a plush based character having a button in place where one of their eyes would be... Or a wide object having multiple legs for weight distribution(okay, I get why this ISN'T common). Or a lid-based object not having a visible mouth.

Seconding slapstick (in a way), I really like the incredible cartoon violence seen in a lot of object shows. Blocky building entire mechanisms dedicated to killing particular characters repeatedly stands out as an example; a totally different but equally worthwhile one was Liam drowning in ONE. Taken seriously or not, it’s usually some kind of entertaining/gripping/interesting/[etc.] in effect (at least on me =P).
I don’t know what this one would actually be called, but I also enjoy the element of “casual nonsense” present in a lot of shows. This ranges from “an absurdly cruel host showrunning in an otherwise grounded setting” (see MePhone in II2) to “completely inscrutable reasons for many things” (see pre-split BFB). It’s fun to look in at strange worlds and circumstances.

It's more or less the "make-or-break" quality that keeps it from being mainstream. Me, I find it very appealing. I suppose it makes sense given the inspirations of BFDI alone.
