SHIPPING!!!! Just a General Thread for Talking About What Dynamics, Pairings, and Arcs You Like to See When It Comes to Object Show Ships!
I've Personally Always Enjoyed Turbulent Relationships. My Top Three Ships As a Whole are Sodapack, Fireafy, and Marshple and I'd Say All of Them are Defined By The Instability and Ups and Downs of Their Relationship (Although Fireafy and Marshple Both End Notably Happier Than Sodapack). The More Conflict the Better, and I Think It's a Shame Not Enough Object Shows Take Advantage of Relationship Drama for Dynamics and Strategy... How is There Not One Warrior Cats Style Forbidden Relationship Across the Teams????

How is There Not One Warrior Cats Style Forbidden Relationship Across the Teams???? goddd i could not agree with this more. especially with the source material competition format, crazy double crosses and strategic relationships are so essential. we need more of that in object shows imo

I think I can relate, in the case of object shows to a lesser extent since like you said there isn't much to work with. I always admired how the same trauma impacted Liam and Bryce's relationship so drastically into opposite directions. I don't think about the ship a lot but when I do I enjoy it. Also marshple is good because my partner loves them hehe. Winnerclock always had like, a tamer (... ?) version of this "trope". Many say they stopped being intersted in the ship during their arc and then liked it more when they made up which I can kinda understand but to me, If that didn't happen I would care a lot less? I can sink my teeth into just fluff but I found the confrontation about Clock's boundary overstepping to be super important to his character and to Winner as well. Ever since I saw TPOT 1 I was HOPING for them to argue or have some sort of falling out. While everyone was arguing about it I was absolutely cheering!! It also helps that these two have a weird idol x fan thing going on. This might be controversial but I'm a huge sucker for that dynamic If done well or at least funny lol. Anyway It's save to say they are my favorite arc. I love Loser x Cake too but to a lesser extent, It was my first BFDI ship tho. Object shows really need more romance and some good relationship drama in general but I'm afraid people can't even handle the most basic drama

tbh i dont ship much at all, but my fave ships are probably ones with just something completely Dooming Them. either a breakup is inevitable due to the toxicity of the relationship or the couple is going through some harrowing shit together and are trying to get through it without severing their relationship or they literally have no fucking chemistry but it'd be interesting to see them try and fail to be stable. this applies to basically every ship tho, not just object show ships.. ig i just prefer story potential over the actual relationships themselves in most cases

There's So Many Strategic Plays You Can Incorporate With a Romantic Twist! Hell, You Could Easily Make a Bachelor Style Dating Game Series and With Interesting Enough Characters Absolutely Hook a Ton of Fans! The Osc Loves Shipping So Its Weird Absence Has Always Stuck Out to Me Since Its Not Like There's a Huge Gap Between Show Creators and General Fans. (I Hear This is Changing W/ Some Recent Sacri Releases? Idk I Dont Watch 5SOS)

i only "ship" them really bc i think adding a romantic lens to their relationship as it exists in canon makes it more complex and interesting, not because i want them to get together or anything. i really dont think they need to get together tbh they need to work through their personal issues first. and thats what makes them so cute <3333 /hj

You know, I totally see what you mean!! I guess I was just never a huge ice cube fan to notice this dynamic enough. I will now though. Rooting for them to argue now XD Also that last part, absolutely. I am obsessed with Winner x Loser knowing very well about their tragic divorce LOL! I just think it being romantic makes it more interesting.

I'm pretty sure the reason as to why Object Shows don't lean on Dramatic Romantic relationships is because, from what I can gather, a lot of the major creators either aren't interested or aren't good at writing at it. I remember back in the day, there was this one object show that fumbled so badly on romantic relationships. There was more arguing over relationships than the actual relationships itself, and the attempt to ditch it by breaking up the characters and changing them only made it WORSE. And so a lot of the more known creators just agreed it was a bad idea.
For a while, this stuff was largely frowned upon. And because the OSC is all about "Follow the Leader", other creators just didn't bother.
Some of them have eased up on the concept of "Romantic Relationships" and some have decided to implement romantic plots later on, but they have YET to be implemented, or they aren't what OP is referring to.
I do agree that there should be some, just providing some insight onto why romantic conflicts IN GENERAL aren't prominent.

You know, I totally see what you mean!! I guess I was just never a huge ice cube fan to notice this dynamic enough. I will now though. Rooting for them to argue now XD yeah, i think a lot of people don't really pay attention to ice cube since she doesn't really talk that much in most episodes she's in? personally that's part of why i like her though, i just kinda read her as being semi-verbal. she's actually a really interesting and expressive character imo, you just have to pay attention to her facial expressions/body language too! i think thats another thing about her, since she doesn't talk very much, most of her verbal reactions tend to be like. really built up outbursts of emotions she's been clearly building up for a while. classic example is this scene from bfdia 5a (timestamped in the embed, but its 3:47-4:32)
like, she's so clearly uncomfortable here from the beginning, but she doesn't actually say anything until pin pushes her into it! it also makes it really easy for people to talk over her, she has a lot of issues standing up for herself :( in this scene books on her side ofc, but she would end up doing exactly the thing to icy that pin does here into late pre-split bfb.
ice cube is also just really volatile in her opinions on people, which is another thing that's always been really relatable to me tbh. like obviously it's spun as her being "vengeful" for comedy's sake, but i just see it as making her more interesting as a character anyway. especially with the alliance, who she pretty clearly idolized as far back as literally BFDI 1a/1b!! pencil especially treats her kind of inconsistently shitty in a lot of BFDIA though, and it's obvious that from BFB on she's just completely switched from idolizing the fuck out of her to despising her. and i don't know if pencil even noticed!! idk their relationship is just really complicated and i love it. theres honestly probably even more to be said about ice cube and book's relationship, considering they had similar experiences with pencil and match and then ice cube ended up hating all three of them equally. tbh though i mostly dont ship them romantically bc i'm a pillowbook truther XDDDD can you tell i love the fucked up girl couples

It really does feel like that due to Ice Cube's quiet demeanor, others can push her around lot easier. Not too hard to have someone follow what you do If they don't disagree yeah? It doesn't help Icey keeps ending up with people who really wanna prove themselves to be right x0 No wonder she's changed her mind on them. Even If I can somewhat understand Pencil and Especially Book. I could say a lot on Book as a character, I feel like most ships with her I'm like "Yeah Romance would make it more funny/interesting" rather than thinking They Should Get Together. But I can definitely be swayed in one direction or another. I briefly liked Taco x Book for that reason back in 2022 but I think part of me felt that way because I was so dissatisfied with the end of their arc that literally Anything Else Would've been more interesting x( but imagine the romantic drama... Well I guess we have Pillowbook for that now, and It does work a little better in that regard.

Coming back to this thread to mention my other OTP I barely talk about, cuz well, there isn't as much to say that's actually in the show that I can analyze.
Ahh... Winnerloser. A lot of my love for them stemmed from thinking up a backstory for them for me and my friend's (humanized) AU, so It's hard not to get attached to them. My idea for their breakup was that Winner left due to Loser focusing on growth and following whatever is popular to climb up the fame ladder and they just couldn't deal with it anymore. This isn't what they wanted both in the sense of "they don't wanna be famous" but also in what they'd be performing. Now I was mostly right, except It was Loser who left. But I was shockingly close!
Many nights I spent thinking about their romantic relationship only to end with "Ah but they're gonna break up anyway huh." That only fueled me further though. Imagine not only losing the steam to perform but also seeing your partner become a whole different person through it. Or wanting your partner to stay with you every single way only for them to grow further apart the more you get closer to your dreams. The relationship they started through fulfilling a shared passion is being torn apart because of it. It's just- Agh!!! It's hard to find the words right now but I love them a lot.
I'm nice to see that ultimately Winner felt no hatred or vengence towards Loser but rather dissapointment. And that they were eventually able to move on. They're so strong... sniffle.

I wanna see more of her and Taggy soon. The idea of Taco and Book ever interacting again is kinda scary but I wouldn't be opposed to it. I'd just hope they do it well cuz oh my god the potential between these two. I need to see them come to an actual conclusion...
