hi hi hi artists :]
Was thinking about it earlier and I'm curious, how do you draws object limbs in their artstyle? Using myself as an example to start, back when I first got into object shows around maybe 2021 i mostly stuck with the stick limbs and stayed with that until early 2023 when I was a bit more involved in the object camp scene. I got inspired to draw the limbs a bit thicker from the other artists I was participating with
Here's a bit of a timeline for you for what i mean. Not the best examples but whatever. The order goes from 21', 22', 23', 24'.
Would love to see thoughts/examples, I like seeing artstyles

personally, i draw thicker limbs, usually with paw pads on the hands and feet! i simply think its cute... and in Roadkill i actually play into that more by also giving them retractable claws, so its not just a stylistic choice there, but an actual part of their anatomy. i also used to draw stick limbs but i got bored of it tbh. in my usual art style i draw them closer to how i draw paws on my furry characters but in Roadkill the style is super simplified to make drawing pages easier so i go for a more "chunky" look. uh, im too lazy to pull up a visual example rn, so for a comparison just look at the banner art i drew of Zeeky vs a panel of Roadkill lol. tho Zeeky doesnt have paws. idk why i did that actually

Also get what you mean by the "chunky" look, I lean towards that when I'm doing comics its way less time consuming.

FINALLY A THREAD FOR ME!!! Personally I never really did the stick limbs, I just wasn't happy with the simple stick limbs and dot eyes. I'm always a fan of big round eyes and I just felt like I needed to have the thicker limbs to balance it out. It took a while to really master them though, but I think I'm doing well now! My main inspirations for how I draw object limbs is from Diddl and Smurfs, including how their feet/paws are drawn. I see a lot of people add pawpads to their designs which I love doing myself. As of recent I've also been taking the Cheech Wizard as an inspiration for how I draw objects, including limbs. My progress ( 2021 - 22 - 23 - 24 )
I've been also trying to personalize them a little more, It's something I really need to think about more so I don't just do the same thing over and over ahah. But I do have some examples of it! My sona CD has cloven hoof-like feet. Cake has a chocolate-strawberry swiss roll swirl on his pawpad (can't see it in this one too well but It's my most recent example). goon's OC Poutine has heels of sort. Etc and so forth. PS: HD has the coolest design ever. I love the limbs on that beast. Also hi Outine

For me, the way I draw limbs vary depending on the context. For more "canon compilant" works, sketches and lower effort drawings, it's usually the stick limbs. For more higher effort ones, it's often thicker, more angular limbs. Sometimes the limbs are the same material as the object, other times it's pitch black. The limbs can also vary depending on the type of object. Sometimes it's more animalistic, other times the limbs are segmented. I used to do just simple stick limbs for several years. I don't have any old art of that however.

I Mostly Do Bigger Limbs Because My Style is In Part Inspired By Stuff Like School House Rock! I Think Its Cute to Give Objects Bigger Chunkier Limbs and Makes It Actually Feel Like They Can Support Their Bodyweight. Its Something I Forsake When Actually Animating Though Which is a Shame...

I've seen people deride his design a lot but I think it's very charming, everyone needs to respect the diddl!! Characters with chunky ass limbs r very fun, more object artists need to give their characters crazy proportions Also holy shit cheech wizard My personal favourite bode design is the lizards, they're always lovely

It just inspires me a lot. I love giving characters just so much blush too. And Yeah! I've recently been digging Bode's art a lot. I have yet to read more of his work however but the art goes crazy. Super inspiring. The lizard guy is dope too.

My art style is simply a thin one, but with limb variations! ^TBC screenshots as examples, the variations are actually canon and not just visuals I have drawn thicker styled limbs, as seen with this: And then I have a story i've been slowly working on, where the characters have furry limbs! have one example for now
