Putting This in This Board Because It's Not Character Related and More General But What are Some Things That You Personally Don't Enjoy About Object Shows? This is a Civil Conversation, No Insulting Others or Their Own Inclinations and Preferences, But the OSC is Certainly Full of Tropes That are Grating and I Think Worth Discussing.
I Personally Do Not Like Joke Shows Where the Punchline is No One Cares or Put Any Effort In and Being Serious is a Wash. The Best One Was the First One and You Just Aren't Gonna Top OS87, Esp if You Aren't Being Clever and Aren't Trying. I Feel Like a Lot of Shows Hold Themselves Back Because of an Overreliance on Irony and Lampshading and Memes in Place of Actual Jokes OR an Actual Emotional Core. If You Aren't Gonna Care Enough to Try Why Should I Care Enough to Watch?

You took the words out of my mouth LOL That's my biggest Pet Peeve too. The whole bit shouldn't be to insult your audience and show how much you don't care yada yada. It just does not work. At best the former can work If you already have your own audience and you can be aware & clever about your own viewerbase but in this case your entire potential audience is "Object Show Fan". Whatever joke they have has probably been done already.
I don't understand why there aren't more shows that are just comedy focused rather than "joke" shows. I feel like the latter implies that you just... don't care? You can't even critize it properly because then you get hit with the "well it's bad on purpose". You can be low effort or focus on humor without It having to be completely irony poisoned xP Even If I don't find a show particularily funny, I rather have one be inoffensive but just not my thing than the whole joke being Ironic And Meta.

this acutally clears up a lot of problems I've had with my joke show ideas, because I'll want to make them, but then I think I'm putting too much effort into them for it to be a "joke show", because that's how I saw it I guess? so what you're saying is that you can still put effort into a joke show, and it wont take away from it? because that helps a lot with how I was viewing the genre

oh yeah as someone who likes joke shows i get what you mean. the best are the ones that are jokes but still show some level of care and effort. if your show doesnt look like you enjoyed making it then why should i pay any attention to it? you clearly only want the satisfaction of being a Le Epic Memelord Troll. i guess what makes it a "joke show" and not just a comedy show IS that "i dont give a fuck and think all of this is stupid" attitude but i like the specific style of comedy that comes from shows like Animatic Battle and such which i feel has an overlap with joke shows but whatever
hmm, as for my own personal pet peeves, im just in general tired of competition shows that have nothing to stand out! a lot of competition shows have different styles of comedy or different tones or an overarching plot or some kind of a gimmick etc etc that keeps things interesting but a very VERY large chunk of them have nothing to make them worth watching. for all my favorite competition shows i could at least name 1 thing that draws me into them. i know a lot of object shows are just made and watched by kids who are just starting out, so im not bashing anybody when i say this! i just personally wish there was more variety! competitions are obviously the most popular genre since they're what started this community in the first place but i think if you're gonna do one you should try something unique with it. (and if you're gonna do stereotype comedy at least use stereotypes that havent really been used in an object show before. give us like... idfk... a hardcore christian who keeps trying to preach the gospel to the other contestants... that might be funny. i dunno. just please people do something new!!!!)

The pacing when it comes to developing plot elements, whether it be relationships or character development, has always bugged me. It is possible to have a natural development in a few episodes, but a lot of shows I've seen fail to establish gradual changes properly? Often it feels rushed or out of nowhere... Especially if it's something we the viewer should root for or care about. I remember someone brought up that one scene where Eggy tried to make it up for making Teardrop uncomfortable with little buildup. I don't remember if that scene even went anywhere???????????????????? Ah well.
Of course some shows have only things they wrote when they were 12 to work off, so I'll cut some slack off of those.
Also I agree with OP. The lampshading wasn't funny in 2014, it sure isn't funny now. OS87 had a much more clever way at being an II2 parody.

Oh yeah agree, there's a lot of characters that suffer under this but Cake is one that comes to mind immediately.
Not something I see people talk about a lot but It always felt like, to me who loves overanalyzing at least, they wanted him to seem dependent on Loser or going with the crowd on how to feel about him. Highlighted by the "He's gone for a reason" after Loser's elimination in BFB 7 or "I don't have to live in Loser's shadow anymore" during his OWN elimination but instead it felt so insanely left field. How are you gonna pull that line during his elimination when all the previous times Cake talked about him post-Loser elimination were him adoring him? Sure you could read it as him doing it in an unhealthy way but all we saw pre-Loser elimination is just.. them being nice to each other LOL. Plus he never ever talked about Loser in TPOT so why bring him up now? Like I see the potential but It was executed quite poorly and I'm not just saying this because I ship them and don't want them to be unhealthy (I mean, Winner x Clock is my favorite ship and I like how their relationship struggled).
On that note, good lord I hate viewer voting. My other pet peeve. Liy you will always be famous to me.

OH YEAAAAAAH. I remember back in the day, a lot of people wanted to vote out Loser just to see what will become of his team. Needless to say, the results were pretty... Disappointing. (oh man, the Loser discourse was something else, but I digress)
Also yeah... Viewer Voting can be detrimental when the target involves ongoing stories. Too many ongoing plotlines have had to abruptly end because of that.

I think my big one is when a shows cast is too too big or when some casts have characters that are someones icon or just a human guy. Having a crew members self-insert or icon as a main character/contestant seems like a recipe for disaster

NO LITERALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We Have Barely Even Scratched the Surface of What a Competiton Show Can Be! It's All Survivor Alikes, The Only Amazing Race Style Shows I Can Think Of are Town Attack and MAAAAYBE Battle for Object Destination? We Haven't Even Had a Big Brother or Bachelor-Alike! I Get People are Mostly Drawing Off of Other Object Shows and TDI But Cmon... It Would Be Such an Easy Way to Make Your Competition Show New and Fresh and No One Does It!

Ooh yeah. There are other types of Competition Shows that could be explored beyond the Survivor genre!! Maybe something based on The Amazing Race... Those romance related ones... And even documentaries on Object Reality shows??? There's a lot that could be done. (EDIT: Pony beat me to it LOL)

People Seem Allergic to Setup and Payoff More Than a Few Episodes in Advance and Foreshadowing Always Feels Like Its Reserved for Like, the BIG Plot and Not Small Character Stuff So a Lot of Relationship Developments Just Kinda Happens. I Get Why This Happens in Viewer Voting Shows But I Feel Like We Need to Either Leave Viewer Voting Behind or Just Start Fucking With Votes. I Think PPT2 Using a Token to Keep Treasure Chest In or BFB Not Putting Bleh Up For Elimination Until Book's Arc Had Been Resolved are Both Smart and Easy Ways to Do It, and IDK Sometimes I Think the Viewers Should Just Be Outright Ignored.
