personally i would love to see more competition shows delve deep into the reality show aspect, even if theyre still a survivor-like show. i feel like not enough shows dip enough into the TDI inspiration and its another way i think you could make it feel unique! i feel like you could derive a lot of comedy from reality show stuff. like manufactured drama, confessional booths, dramatic sound effects and bleeped out swearing, arguments breaking out at the elimination ceremony...
Oh definitely. Considering how prevalent the comedy aspect is in Object Shows, I too am also surprised as to why there hasn't really been an attempt beyond confessionals and sometimes ceremonies going off course. Drama aside that would be a golden mine for laughs.

I've always wanted to see the outside world of competition shows. Who watches Object Shows? Do they have a camera crew, or a production team behind it? Where's the paparazzi and gossip tabloids? It would have been an interesting parody of celebrity culture. Furthermore, do the objects we know and love have a life outside of the show, and what brought them into it? Was it all a facade and contestants would act very differently outside the show? The pressure to compete and the greed that comes with winning can change someone.

agreed on a lot of points here, i hate when people are insecure and irony poisoned, i hate when people prioritize bits over actual characters, i think meta comedy is fine as long as it isn't overt and obnoxious but a lot of people do it wrong. in general, speaking as a writer, it just bothers me the most when people can't even make their scripts grammatically correct. i fucking hate getting to the end of a production that probably took upwards of a year, every sentence is the most unnatural poorly-written garbage i've ever seen, and then i see that there were 2 head writers and 3 editors like great job guys you really knocked it out of the park. writing is literally the most important part of the show. it's what will determine if people will actually care. it can easily save a show with bad designs or bad animation. WHY DOESN'T ANYBODY KNOW FIFTH GRADE ENGLISH

One thing I've noticed is that when an object show is 3D, a lot of the time the creator just tries to push the object show being "3D" as its main selling point, even though all that really means is that the object show... is in le 3D??? Yes, I know the OSC has been starved of 3D shows for quite some time, but what are you going to add to the genre with it? Where's the charm? The pizzazz? I mean, look at this place! What is the THEME here? 3D? It's BORING!!! My main point here is, you shouldn't make your object show in 3D if you don't have a good reason for it to be 3D, or else it just becomes forgettable, because I can tell you're only focusing on making it look 3D rather than every other aspect that makes a show good. There’s not much of a difference between your show and the rest of the object shows in the OSC if they’re not unique in their own ways.

IDK if this counts as a peeve but we don't really find most mean/bully archetype characters interesting. We really hate a lot of them. Like IK sometimes writers need to make a character who's just unlikeable but if you want genuine investment in like a contestant who's meant to be actually interesting to the audience you're gonna have to make them be fun in some way about the meanness. Or give them an extra trait that's interesting and makes them stand out!

OH DEFINITELY when it comes to different mediums n stuff like using 3d animation THAT should be the thing that gets you to do more new stuff yk??? an object show in 3d ?? AWESOME now do cool 3d shit in there bro THE WORLD IS LITERALLY YOUR OYSTER
im not an expert in 3d software/animation (the stuff ive done was mostly for class haha its very rudimentary ofc) BUT literally being able to do things in a whole new dimension can inspire sm?? i think people just need to feel less conjoined to the average object show format ESP if they want to do something cool and new!! i think if i got off my ass and went back to blender id love to just make some weird experimental stuff with my guys . id honestly kill to see objects in 3d environments more often

This is more about Russian object shows, but I really dislike how they always just copy CFMOT and don't do anything original. It seems to be a trend in general that shows copy what the big one does and that's it. When BFB dropped, everyone started doing the hand-drawn style without even giving it their own spice. I called it out at the time, saying they're all copycats, but people insisted on them all looking totally different. Like, what?

It seems to be a trend in general that shows copy what the big one does and that's it. Yeah, sometimes taking cues from the big shows can end up being detrimental to the writing at times. Especially if you don't take into consideration on whether or not certain things are good for the story your going for. Even moreso if it's something more serious.

Quoting Both of You Because This is Just Such A Problem in the OSC. There is Such a "Follow the Leader" Problem Where People Just Do Stuff to Do Stuff Because Other People Did It, Not Knowing Why Those Things Happen. It Really Causes Us to Stagnate I Think

If it gets hits, there's no harm copying others to get the same audience. The main issue is if someone wanted to add more substance to a copy but then it ends up feel like it's just tacked on without explanation or foreshadowing. Or inconsistent tone from being comedic to dramatic or horror.

There was a 3D object show a few years ago called code:mercenary. Not sure if you've seen that one before, and it seems to be doing it's own thing.

There is Such a "Follow the Leader" Problem Where People Just Do Stuff to Do Stuff Because Other People Did It, Not Knowing Why Those Things Happen. It Really Causes Us to Stagnate I Think yeah, this mentality befalls most first-time show creators. it's because they're kids, and this is usually the first thing they've ever made. as they grow up and inevitably cancel their first show to start on another, it blossoms into a mindset where they're like "i'm older now, i know how to make things now, and i'm right about what i do and don't need to be instructed" which leads to them spending months on creatively dead ideas with complete confidence because they've never tried to analyze what they like and determine what makes it good. it doesn't help when their main inspiration is Object Invasion or something either.
there are a million shows you could point to that are the result of this, but i'm going to single out The Nightly Manor for fun. the creator did nothing but work on other peoples' shows for years, surrounded himself with people that were more talented than him, and held onto a single, flawed idea that entire time. the result was a reboot of his first object show (WHICH YOU SHOULD NEVER DO) with a confused release schedule, half-baked story, and a script that makes me want to gouge my eyes out. despite this, due to him having The Entire OSC behind him, willing to go along with every creative decision without question, he managed to make something so flashy and cinematic that it became one of the most talked-about shows of its time.
he made shit, and nobody pushed back on it. instead, they spent countless hours polishing his shit until it looked nice, and the entire community fell for it, meaning that there was even less chance of his work ever being properly criticized. how will he grow creatively from this? will he be able to make something with this much support again if/when he actually has a good idea?
what a terrible environment to make something in.

Very well said. Explains why I was never a fan of that show either.
